I’m a parent at Robert Gray and I’m sharing my love of fencing with tweens from all schools whether they want to have some fun one day a week or hope to make the varsity team at an elite university by training every day. I’ve competed collegiately, nationally and internationally. I’m volunteering my time with Impact NW’s SUN program in order to keep costs low. You will have to eventually sign up through them.

We are starting with foam swords so new fencers only need court shoes and athletic clothing. Beginning second semester we will switch to electric epees. Fencing is a martial art, and because of its equipment, it is both the fastest and the safest. If both fencers hit each other within four hundredths of a second they both score. This happens quite often! Electronic scoring machines indicate who landed first and prepare students for competition in local tournaments.
